Body as a Resource

ree

I enjoyed connecting with Debbie Ison on her podcast Tranquil Awakenings. Debbie is a seasoned holistic therapist based in the United Kingdom. In our conversation I spoke to my work as a Movement & Expressive Arts Therapist, the way in which I was drawn to this field of practice and my philosophy seeing the body as a resource.

I love conversing with fellow practitioners and hearing how they came to be on their path - most of the time through their own healing journey. That is certainly what it was for me - recognising how disconnected from my body I had become and coming to understand and work through the resistances, the barriers, the trauma and learn instead how to work in partnership with the body.

The body is a resource that is constantly in communication with us, sending us signals. When we connect with our body through somatic-awareness, with intention, making space to learn how to allow feelings and sensations to be heard and expressed, this leads to deepening understanding. We can recognise our bodies signals, and build trust in what it is sharing with us. This is how our intuition strengthens and we hone our resilience and sense of Self.
